Who is the designer?

The designer is a person who has the ability to transform ideas, words, or feelings into something that is visual, something an eye would be able to see.To me a designer is not only a person with talent by itself nor a person with skills or knowledge of the medium without concepts to work with. It is like having the ability with not enough creativity to engage with the rest of the world. A successful designer is one who has talent, creativity, and knowledge that is improved with time; knowledge could be gained by education. School is a good place to get education, but it is not the only place. Self-education is a very important factor for a successful designer too, reading books, attending conferences and short courses, interacting with people or traveling if possible. And a designer should always keep his/her eyes wide-open, eyes that are aware of everything it sees. And the reason why is to keep a designer up-to-date with all the trends that are recent.I believe that is a designer is like a doctor; he/she has to study on a regular bases to be good at their jobs.I also believe that a designer isn’t only an automotive designer, costume designer, fashion designer, jewelry designer, game designer, graphic designer, industrial designer, interior designer, landscape designer, lighting designer, scenic designer, system designer, web designer, or a textile designer.A designer is also the chain that is connected between the sub consciousness and the consciousness.A designer is an artist too, but with qualities that are a little bit different.A designer solves problems and produce services for clients most of the times. For me a designer’s work depends on emotions. Emotions can be created or felt if there was a concept in one’s design work.A designer can use the tools but nothing beautiful will appear if it’s emotionless. It’s hard to look at something without finding a meaning to it. And if you think about it more deeply you will find hundreds of other meanings. It differs from person to person; it all depends on the state of feeling a person is in and also on the background, atmosphere and personality.Everything in life affects the designer and the way she/he interprets it determines the kind of work a designer will produce. In contrast, the designer is also a key figure in the shaping of the society aside with politics and other things that are considered fairly important. The designer is an open-minded individual, who doesn’t depend on personal taste to judge what is beautiful and what is not, or what is a right design or a wrong design.A designer should consider a lot of factors before judging any kind of design work, for example the cultural factor. For the fashion industry, some traditional clothes in one region could be considered highly fashionable in another region at some point in time.I would describe a design process as an idea that goes through phases from thumbnails to the recreation and the final design, no matter what type of designer we talk about; they all go through the same process or at least a similar one.A smart designer will create other designers. If a designer succeeds to reach out with her/his point of view in a specific design to the widest range of audience and if she/he succeeds in influencing them (other designers), they will be creating new similar designs thus the smart designer have distributed a new trend. As a conclusion I would say that design is a huge field that is endless and it evolves from one century to another but also from one decade to another or even from one year to another. Design is always different from not only one region to another but also from one country to the other. Thus a designer is infinitely defined. A designer could be someone who is working on something that she/he had known all her/his life without even knowing that is considered design, someone who is day by day educated from the lifestyle itself. For example putting Henna (A reddish-orange dyestuff prepared from the dried and ground leaves of this plant, used as a cosmetic dye and for coloring leather and fabrics.) on a woman’s hand with decorative patterns that include balance, symmetry, asymmetry and other factors that are important in a design but also doing it as a result of a tradition that transmitted from one generation to the next in the Gulf area (Middle East) without being aware that it is considered design. And what makes is considered a design is that it is an idea that went thorough a process and took time to be done and ended up with a result that is visual and also sends emotional messages to the lady who wears it and the people around her.Everyone is a designer in her/his own way. After all we design our lives, our actions and our emotions. At least most of the times we do.
